VERY IMPORTANT - If you, or someone you know, heard any conflicting statements or misleading information from presenters at the City of Edmonton Gravel Project Open House on April 7th, 2011, please forward these comments to the NSRVCS with the specific details as soon as possible. Please include the name of the individual who made the statements (if possible), and why you believe the statement is conflicting or misleading. These inaccuracies and misrepresentations will be sent to the City in an official document.
Remember, Kanata has applied to amend the existing MDP.
The amended bylaw would allow gravel mining in the River Valley. Let City officials know that this is UNACCEPTABLE!
If successful, Kanata will open an environmentally destructive gravel pit at the south end of 199 Street in Edmonton’s pristine River Valley, in the heart of residential development. Edmonton residents would be put at extreme health and safety risk. A decision of this nature would set a dreadful precedent, blowing the doors wide open for any river valley property owner to apply for mining rights.

Voice Your Opinion; Tell City Officials to: • Protect Edmonton’s largest remaining natural area, • Protect the health and safety of Edmonton residents, • Make the right decision and uphold the recent MDP banning all industrial activity in the River Valley, and • Work with the North Saskatchewan River Valley Conservation Society to turn its vision for the Big Island/Woodbend Natural Area into a reality.
